Nana Wolke’s painting was a highlight for us at Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2021, on view at South London Gallery until 20 February 2022.
Graduating from Goldsmith’s with an MFA last year, Nana Wolke’s portfolio is filled with crimson-hued snapshots of theatrical props, such as a cowboy jacket or a pair of leather pants taken from unusual vantage points.
Framing her objects against a red hunting light, her canvases carry a tactility about them that immediately draws you in, akin to the work of 2021’s rising-star Issy Wood. Her debut London solo show Nana Wolke: High Seat is currently on view at Castor Gallery.
